Do you want to communicate confidently in English & Chinese?
Do you want to understand more about Chinese Culture?
Chinglish is a bilingual Toastmasters club with meetings conducted in both English and Mandarin.
The club is the brainchild of Yin Yu. Yin joined Toastmasters in 2006, when she was living in Shanghai, and has served as VPE and is now a Competent Communicator. Interestingly enough, the first club she joined at that time was an English speaking club, but since she moved to Australia about one year ago, she started to have the idea of a truly bilingual English/Mandarin club when she saw an ever-growing relationship between the two countries and two languages.
This club is located in Chatswood and is a venue for members to practice public speaking in both English and Chinese, and to learn how to communicate effectively to another culture. Yin said:
I have a very 'selfish' reason to start this club. I want to be able to continue to use and learn about my beautiful mother tongue and my culture while living away from China.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the
MOSAIC Multicultural Centre at 12 Brown Street, Chatswood.
Please telephone or send email to register your interest and obtain more information including a copy of the next meeting agenda. Alternatively, just turn up on the night!
Read the Welcome letter in English and Chinese. To help you prepare your first speech, download the "Ice Breaker" speech assignment from the Toastmasters web site.
